Uprooted & Rising is a movement fighting for a future that will sustain and nourish generations to come, here and abroad. We are calling for an end to the ways in which colleges and universities are supporting Big Food corporations and white supremacy in the food system. We are directing the energy of our generation towards food sovereignty -- towards community control over our food system.
This spring, people across the country took action to *expose the choice* that colleges and universities are making between Big Food corporations and our communities. Colleges and universities are failing us. They are supposed to serve our communities, but when it comes to food, they put their deals with Big Food corporations first. Some campuses contract with Sodexo, Aramark and Compass Group (subsidiaries: Chartwells and Bon Appetit), which lock in Big Food corporations and lock out small and minority farmers, ranchers, and fishers. Some campuses have exclusive pouring rights contracts, offering exclusive access and advertising to beverage companies that exploit workers and communities of color here and around the world. And all of this while upwards of 50% of students are food insecure on many campuses. Our food system is in crisis and we need to #Rise4FoodSovereignty and for each other.
Join us to learn about what comes next! We will be sharing an overview of Uprooted & Rising and ways to get involved in the movement!
